Language Article

http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/yoursay/language_and_identity/global_english/is_there_such_a_thing_as_a_clean_language.shtml

This article is someone wondering if there are any languages that do not have influences from other languages, being 'clean' of any outside influence. It interests me because I've often wondered the same thing. I know there are languages that are in their own family by themselves such as Basque or Korean, but even those languages have some influence from other languages.

Why ToK?

We do ToK because it helps us become more responsible knowers, so that when we acquire knowledge it doesn't go to waste. We do it to learn.

The IB learner profile is central in being a responsible knower, so the goal of ToK is also to teach the IB learner profile.

What is TOK, anyway?

TOK is the study of Knowledge, how we know what we know. I know this because I have been told.

My Identity as a knower

My identity as a knower:
  • Reason
  • Mathematics

Anyone who knows me (how?) knows that I do not express my emotions very well or often, just facts, like "I am hungry" or "I need sleep". Therefore, I can not be in the emotional category. Language and Sense Perception are closer to me, as I find the study of languages fascinating, but I am not a big talker. I am more observant than most people, but that does not define me as much as reason. I am usually the first to point out the logical way to do things, and I am pretty good at sudoku.
